Introduction
As one of Sydney's busiest community clubs, Hornsby RSL operates around the clock, serving members and guests every day of the year. Behind the scenes, approximately 230 employees work together to help keep the club running smoothly every day. For HR Manager Mark Tirant, supporting that workforce means navigating a wide range of people challenges while ensuring the club remains compliant and safe.
The Situation
From performance concerns and disciplinary matters to employee disputes and other sensitive workplace issues, Mark regularly found himself navigating complex situations that required careful judgement and a clear understanding of employment law.
As workplace matters became increasingly complex, including difficult conversations around terminations and redundancies, Mark wanted greater confidence that he was taking the right approach and handling issues fairly, consistently and in line with workplace laws.
With a busy role and responsibility for a diverse team, he needed a trusted partner who could provide specialist guidance when workplace matters arose and help him manage them confidently.
"Before Peninsula, we were struggling with knowing if we were following the correct procedures when managing our staff and workplace operations."
The Solution
That's where Peninsula stepped in.
Whenever workplace challenges arose, Mark had access to a team of HR and workplace relations specialists who could provide expert advice and practical support.
Over the years, Peninsula has helped him manage a range of complex employee matters, including performance issues, disciplinary processes, workplace disputes, terminations and redundancies. When more sensitive situations required additional support, Peninsula's Face2Face services helped facilitate conversations, provide mediation and guide managers through difficult discussions.
Peninsula also assisted with HR documentation and ongoing workplace Health & Safety guidance, helping ensure processes were followed correctly, risks were reduced and workplace standards remained strong.
"When I do call Peninsula for any matter, I know I'm going to get the proper service and the right advice. Since partnering with them, our ratio of incidents has decreased dramatically, and our business is saving on average 15 to 20 hours per week, which is fantastic."
What Happened Next
Today, Mark has confidence knowing specialist support is available whenever he needs it, whether he's managing a complex employee matter, addressing a workplace safety issue or seeking a second opinion.
Peninsula's HR support has helped reduce the administrative burden on the team, save an estimated 15 to 20 hours each week and contribute to a significant reduction in workplace incidents. As a result, Hornsby RSL can spend more time focused on its employees, members and day-to-day operations.
"I would definitely recommend Peninsula to other businesses because of their communication, their expertise, and because they actually listen to what an organisation is looking for.”
